Invitation to guest lecture by Professor Erling Rasmussen
Guest lecture by Erling Rasmussen on "Changes in policy thinking and employment relations in New Zealand in the new millennium". Erling Rasmussen is Professor of Work & Employment, AUT, Auckland , New Zealand.
19.05.2022 kl. 09.00 - 10.00
New Zealand implemented transformational public policy changes in the 1980s and 1990s, based a radical and comprehensive New Zealand version of neo-liberalism. In the new millennium, there have been attempts to reverse these public policy positions. While this presentation will briefly comment on adjustment in thinking about the role of the state, economic strategy, and the welfare state, it will mainly focus on changes in employment relations. In particular, it will analyse the post-2017 employment relations changes across areas which have also featured in recent Danish debates. This will include: protection of individual employee rights, zero-hours constraints, a ‘reset’ of migration practices, encouraging pay equity in female-dominated sectors and jobs, and legislative-based encouragement of sectoral collective bargaining. Overall, these policy changes will be related to the government’s two major goals of ‘transformation’ and a ‘sustainable high wage, high skill, and highly productive economy’.
